2016-08-20 19:55 | Maya was a happy girl growing up.She felt love from both parents and an older sister.She thought that her life was the best kind of life that anybody could've wished for.As years passed by,she realized that she was wrong the whole time.
Her father passed away due to cancer and they were living from hand to mouth from that day on. Maya's mother who never went to college and was a housewife,had to go out to find a job.But, the only job that was suitable for her level of knowledge was to become a maid.
Maya and her sister often had to skip school as there was nobody to clean the house or prepare meals. They gave up their dreams of becoming an engineer due to what they are facing now.
One day, as Maya woke up, she realized that her sister was not there with her. She searched the whole house for her but there was no luck. Instead, she found a note from her sister which said;
"Maya I am sorry for leaving you at home. And I am terribly sorry but, I'm not coming back. I couldn't stand the life that we are living. I am going to live with my friend's family as they were very wealthy. Think about your life do the same as I did to have a better life my dear sister."
As soon as Maya finished reading the letter, she burst into tears. She remembered what her sister said to her to go do the same as she did but, Maya couldn't bare the fact of leaving her mother.
After midnight, Maya's mother finally came home. Her mother had bought a new pair of socks for Maya's sister as hers was already worn out. Maya explained the story of her sister's leave to her mother and both Maya and her mother cried themselves a river.
3 years passed, and on one morning her mother was on her deathbed. Maya could not accept the fact of her mother's death. But she accepted it a few months later as the saying goes" let bygones be bygones".
Maya continued to live her life.She had to apply for several jobs. And as soon as she had enough money, she decided to go to college. She excelled in college and reached her dream of being an engineer.
As for her sister, she ended up working as a waitress in a restaurant because her friend's family had a business breakdown and ended up being beggars.
That is why we should all be appreciative of what we have and always put others first especially your own family.
